This is a place where you can exist without judgement. A place for freedom, liberty, and safety. Remember that the past is the past. It’s a story we tell ourselves. A story that we think defines who we are. To some extant it does, but more importantly, the past is used as a learning device. It exists in order to learn and grow. Only those with too weak of a willpower are privy to the same mistakes. But even then, it is sometimes not too late to change. Once you have learned, do not look back.
As the story of Sodom and Gomorrah goes, Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt for looking back. I do not take this as punishment for disobeying God, but a self inflicted punishment for not being able to let go of the past and look towards the future. She was turned to stone, essentially, because that is the future we face if we cannot “forgive and forget”. We are turned into people haunted by our past mistakes, unable to take advantage of the plan God has laid out for us.
For those that suffer that physical consequences of your actions, remember they are just that: physical. Sometimes, we have to pay for our sins here on earth, in order to purge ourselves of our transgressions. Remember that all pain is fluid, passing by and forgotten upon our death, when we see the light of God. Do not give up hope and do not give up on God. He does not hurt and he does not punish. God only loves.
